While Contrails Software and Consulting realizes and targets the fact that the Internet is a big part of our modern lives, we also recognize that it doesn't lend itself to all scenarios simply because Internet connectivity isn't always available. Our first product was created by founder, Mike Havener who is also an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner and Certificated Flight Instructor, Glider. He wanted to record a glider's 3D flight path based on GPS data that could be used for post-flight analysis. This information along with terrain and air space data and the glider's performance would also be available to the pilot while in flight. Developed to run on Windows® CE platforms (and later adapted to run Windows® Mobile), the application generates an International Gliding Commission (IGC) data file that resembles the contrails left by high flying aircraft and Contrails Software and Consulting was born.
